    Hi Maximo Users,

We are looking at using the Desktop Requisitions.  Can anyone tell me more about how the attributes are associated with the requisitions?

    Thanks.

Pssssst, here's the secret.  It's almost the same as for the PR.

    So there's nothing special.

Can you give a specific question?

The fact is that the Desktop Requisition (DR) is actual the Material Requisition (MR) under the covers.  Those of us from way back will remember that.  So watch out when I talk, I do interchange the two.

If you have a stocked item/tool then that will cause an item/tool reservation whereas the others or those items/tools not stocked, will cause a PR/PO to be generated following the reorder process.

Good Morning Maryann, I agree with Craig - nothing really special - 'only' a bit aligned to the Web-Shops which are around since the early 2000s.

MRO Software redesigned Maximo during this times, expanding from maintenance/CMMS into the MRO goods & supply business with B2B supply-chain functionality for Buyers (Maximo shopping cart) and Suppliers (Maximo based Webshop). Desktop Requisitions was a much more modern way of Purchase Requisitions with specific features presented more streamlined than you find it in the standard Maximo PR-application. MRO Software offered standard punchin/punchout B2B-functionality to the first huge internet-based MRO Marketplaces directly out of Maximo, including connectors to a variety of MRO marketplaces.

Beeing acquired by IBM in 2006, the MRO marketplace technology was abandoned (I suppose because IBM had comparable B2B-functionality in place already), Even the most prominent reference customer on the MRO marketplace-side, SKF with ENDORSIA, moved over to SAP-technology later! (Once again an unhappy end for a really good story!).

For many Maximo customers CMMS/Maintenance is still main focus and the potential for streamlining internal materials management processes is still beeing neglected somehow - which is a shame. On the other side it still offers a huge optimization potential - see it as 'low hanging fruit'.

If you want to use Maximo Attributes/Classifications on the MR application, you must expand Item-Classifications to MR-lines too.

But it makes sense to use desktop requisitions/MRs today for every potential internal 'Buyer/Requestor' in your company due to the fact that you can use these self-service applications for free without any additional license-cost towards IBM (it's just like the Service Request Application!). Please ask your 'friendly Maximo Dealer' in your region to confirm!

Have a good day - and stay safe!

    Hi Maryann,

here my second attempt to answer on your question (the first one - more detailled - vanished in the POST-process today).

I agree with Craig - nothing really special around the MR-application. Originally it has been designed in the early 2000s to connect Maximo requestors/buyers to MRO marketplaces like the famous SKF Endorsia (including integrated punchin/punchout-functionality based on a companies contracts with the respective suppliers). This was at least a really HUGE sales-story during the early 2000s!!!!).

IBM has abandoned the Maximo-based marketplace technology quickly after acquisition of MRO Software in 2006 (they had their own B2B offerings), therefore the MR applications remain now as SelfService Materials Request and internal Shopping-Cart application, free of license fee for every employee - just as the Service Request application (but please confirm this with your 'friendly Maximo-Dealer').
To use the Maximo Classifications/attributes you have to expand Item Classifications to the MR lines (or ask your friendly MaxAdmin to support you here).

    Have a good day,

    Hagen
