Hello All, 

I have a Cognos dashboard bar chart visualization showing 2 relative time dimension KPI's Current Year [Sales Amount] & Prior Year [Sales Amount]. 
User want to see the difference Current Year [Sales Amount] - Prior Year [Sales Amount] in the tooltip. I was hoping i can make a calculation using these relative time dimension KPI's but I get an error message. Any ideas how to go about this requirement?

If you create the calculation as a stand alone calculation, rather than as a calculation in the query subject as shown in the picture below, you should get the expected results. 

If you create the calculation as a calculation in the query subject in the dashboard you get the error you see.  If you create the calculation in the query subject in the data module itself you will see nulls in the data grid (this will happen even if you set the calculate after aggregation checkbox on) and if you try to use them you don't immediately get the circular reference error but IIRC you don't get results.  There's at least one related defect which has been logged about that.

Hi @IAN HENDERSON, We tried to use data module query subject calculations for a different purpose​ when we wanted to split a key figure by some status business key (btw: It would be great to have status splits similar to relative date splits which obviously only work for date fields). So when we used this query subject calculations with fields from fact and dimension tables we found that the query subject calculations were very slow comparing to stand alone calculations with the same definition (CA 11.1.7). Could you please explain what is different between those types of caclulation?
