  • 1.  Custom Tables Question

    Hi All,

This has been a frustration of mine for a while and wondering if anyone has a solution.

There are times that I build a custom table but then want to go back days later (after closing and reopening SPSS) and change something in the table.  I haven't figured out anyway to bring back all the choices I made in the menu-based view to just make some slight modifications.

I can paste the syntax for the table and try to edit that, but that syntax gets very complicated and I can't always figure out how to make the adjustments I want within the syntax.

Does anyone know of a way to bring back the all the custom table settings in the menu-based view?

    Thanks!
    Bob

It would be nice to be able to recall the state of the Ctables panel, but that is, unfortunately, not possible.  You can get the generated syntax back from a Notes table or the journal file to edit, but that's all.

The Ctables canvas generates syntax that is more complicated than necessary, particularly the TABLE subcommand, which is the most complicated intrinsically.  It repeats the whole statistics section (in []) for each variable it applies to, but you can factor that out with parentheses, instead.  And the label and format fields can be omitted in most cases.
