    Posted Wed August 05, 2020 01:56 PM

VCPU counts are showing different Count when we run ILMT.

We are migrating our on-prem linux servers which has only 1 CPU to AWS.

We are migrating to r5.large but with only 1 CPU. Though R5.large comes with 2 cpus. Please find screenshots. We need complete understanding of license count in AWS.

How do I upload screen shots?

I see following information in the screen for both servers

    CPU(s):        1

    On-line CPU(s) list:  0

    Thread(s) per core:  1

    Core(s) per socket:  1

    Socket(s):       1

but ILMT is showing different values for same r5.large servers in 2 servers.

Physical Server CPU Core Full Capacity
    2
    4

hi, are you looking at the correct column?

instead of "Physical Server CPU Core Full Capacity" which measures the full capacity of the physical server, look in column "Physical Server PVU Subcapacity" or "Partition Cores" to see the amount of pvu's or cores for the virtual machine.

hello, please see the metrics. It created 2 files, pvu_full_capacity and pvu_sub_capacity.csv. Let us know which file we should consider and which column?

    pvu_full_capacity.csv
PVU Per Core Changed PVU Per Core Physical Server CPU Core Full Capacity Physical Server PVU Full Capacity Computer IP Address
    120 No 2 240 cgldwas9023 10.152.228.219
    120 No 4 480 cgldwas0184 10.152.228.13

    pvu_sub_capacity.csv
PVU Per Core Changed PVU Per Core Physical Server CPU Core Subcapacity Limit Physical Server CPU Core Subcapacity Physical Server PVU Subcapacity Limit Physical Server PVU Subcapacity Partition Cores Computer IP Address
    120 No 2 2 240 240 2 cgldwas9023 10.152.228.219
    120 No 4 4 480 480 4 cgldwas0184 10.152.228.13

    1. Another question, when these servers were on-prem it displayed as 1 CPU and PVU per core as 70. Once it migrated to AWS it is showing as 2 CPU and pVU per core as 120.

In that case, as pvu per core as completely changed from 70 to 120. Do we need more licenses?

Can we have a call to better understand ?

    1. With R5.large before launch we changed vcpu to 1 from 2. Still ILMT is showing 2 vcpus, even OS is showing 1 core.

    2. Other AWS servers with same CPU, PVU Per Core is showing 70 but this one is showing as 120

    We need answers ASAP.

    hi Chandra,

what is the current usage? See the Metric Quantity History diagram in the subcap report

keep in mijn that the default ilmt report shows the peak (high-water-mark) usage over a 90 days reporting period. Change the reporting period using the wheel on top-left corner.

this topic is going no where. We have other things to do. Can we get in a call? or can you send webex invite ? Those 2 servers just moved 1 week ago. We have 10-12 servers will move to AWS in this month. We want to have a better knowledge of the ILMT and don't want to cross our limit.

This confirm the AWS Cloud is not set for the computers. Please use the fixlet mentioned in the doc: https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SS8JFY_9.2.0/com.ibm.lmt.doc/Inventory/admin/t_identifying_public_clouds.html

    It is accessible now.

    We have ILMT version

    IBM License Metric Tool

    Version: 9.2.16.0-20190711-1223

    I don't see this one

In the navigation tree of the BigFix console, click Sites > External Sites > IBM License Reporting (ILMT) v9 > Fixlets and Tasks.

No, you mention about LMT console. The fixlet is in BigFix console. There are two different consoles. You should use it before in order to configure scans on endpoints.

I don't know what you mean by installer. In case AIO there is one installer, in case of manual installation there are several. I mean BigFix server, LMT server, Database server, BigFix console, etc..

Please be familiar with our LMT documentation:
