I have done a little work with Shibboleth as an SSO provider for Cognos a while ago. There wasn't direct integration so it wasn't supported nor documented. Basically, Shibboleth had an agent that was installed on the web servers to handle authentication and what was provided to Cognos was a header to perform SSO on. Since it wasn't a direct integration there were some things that did not work as expected especially around the session time out. It looks like they are working to support OpenID Connect so it might be possible now to integrate using the Generic type for OpenID Connect and that would be ideal.
