Thank you
@Gerard Ruppert and
@Syd Shewchuk for your feedback.
The two items
Query Calculation and
Data Item co-exited since Cognos 8, made it through 10 and 11.0, users got used to it. Now that it is gone, it is causing some confusion, giving the false impression you no longer could create a
Data Item.
---------------------------
A
Query Calculation, could be turned into a regular
Data Item by changing properties below:
Detail aggregation = None Summary aggregation = None

Subject: Cognos 11.1 toolbox - missing Data Item
My guess would be that the "Data item" tool went away on purpose. In ICA 11.0.x, the "Data item" and "Query calculation" shared the exact same dialog box and were essentially performing the same end result, so I could not understand why both were in the toolbox - so maybe they read my thoughts... *^_^*
In ICA 11.1.x perhaps they should have called it "Query item" to capture the essence of both names.
Just my 2-cents,
-syd

Cognos 11.0.11 had a "Data Item" object in the toolbox. IBM took this away in Cognos 11.1 (see screenshot below).
Does anyone know why? was it on purpose or a fluke?
