Closed connection. The connection was closed by the client or network (5)

I'm trying to connect to the Watson IoT platform from Home Assistant by following this example - https://github.com/IBM/home-assistant

I know it's archived but this should still work.

On the Watson IoT end I have created a gateway device and have made the necessary changes to the Home Assistant configuration. The HA logs states that the connection to Watson IoT was successful.

The Home Assistant devices automatically show up in Watson IoT devices but no data is received.

Looking at the gateway connection log I get the error "Closed connection. The connection was closed by the client or network (5)" but can't find anywhere what this message exactly means.

Prior to this message I got "Closed connection. The connection timed out" and after some research this seems to suggest an issue with security. Have changed security to "TLS Optional" which then resulted in "Closed connection. The connection was closed by the client or network (5)".

Does anyone know what this error means and how to address this?

Does anyone have some pointers re documentation. I'm happy to analyse myself but simply can't find anything against "Closed connection. The connection was closed by the client or network (5)". There's another post here https://www.ibm.com/mysupport/s/question/0D50z00006PE5juCAD/handling-connect-and-disconnects-with-watson-iot-platform

but it doesn't contain the error I'm receiving. The post outlines "most common codes..." which seems to indicate this is not an exhaustive list...
