FWIW, I have customers that maintain mixed AIX and Linux clusters using the native NTP daemons. It's very straightforward to maintain both config files from the same set of variables using just about any system management tool.
I'm also sure I would not want to troubleshoot a non-native NTP daemon on AIX, even if chrony were to support the platform. NTP is a very "rich" protocol and the linkage between it and the system is not trivial.

Subject: chrony for AIX
Hi Team,
my customer is asking if any plans exist to include chrony in the AIX Toolbox?
He has a variety of Linux and AIX systems running. While the Linux systems have moved to chrony, it doesn't seem to be available for AIX. But to keep the environment consistent it would be advantageous to rely on the same tools.
Hence the question: Do you have any plans to add chrony to the AIX Toolbox for Open Source Software?
https://chrony.tuxfamily.org/
https://documentation.suse.com/sles/15-SP1/html/SLES-all/cha-ntp.html
- Since SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15, chrony
is the default implementation of NTP
https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_enterprise_linux/7/html/system_administrators_guide/ch-configuring_ntp_using_the_chrony_suite
- Chrony should be preferred for all systems except for the systems that are managed or monitored by tools that do not support chrony, or the systems that have a hardware reference clock which cannot be used with chrony.
Thank you in advance,
Yves
