  • 1.  Moving to AIX 7.1 for AIX Toolbox Packages

    Dear AIX Toolbox User,

    Sometime back we started to build newer version of packages for AIX 7.1 from AIX 6.1

    It was done only for newer version update but for security vulnerability fixes we were still building for AIX 6.1
    But as AIX 6.1 is out of support for quite some time and it is difficult for us to maintain AIX 6.1 we are planning to completely move to AIX 7.1
    This mean any newer update for AIX toolbox packages will be on AIX 7.1 and hence newer versions will not work on AIX 6.1
    The older packages those are built for AIX 6.1 will still be available on AIX toolbox and can continue to work.

    Moving to AIX 7.1 will also benefit in taking advantages of new features available in AIX 7 releases. 

    We are planning to start this activity from next quarter.

    I would like to suggest/request that as part of the deprecation of packages for AIX 6, that the team builds one last "final" ISO image of the latest-that-work-on-AIX-6 packages and label it as such. It should contain nothing that does not run on AIX 6 (that is, the AIX 7 packages should NOT be included).

    It would be good to have a clearly labelled place to point people to, and it makes the "this is all you get" position easier to convey.

    Thank you Stephen for your suggestion.
    We do not build ISO image but we will see if we can create a folder for latest AIX 6 packages.
