Change Status window: Why is Status Date editable?

  • 1.  Change Status window: Why is Status Date editable?

    Posted Thu December 31, 2020 02:46 PM
    MAM 7.6.1.2 and Anywhere 7.6.4:

In the Change Status window, the Status Date field is editable. I would have thought that field would be read-only (OOB). I can't think of any scenarios where my users would need to manually enter the Status Date.

What is the intended use case for editing that field?
    1. Back-dating status changes that were missed?
    2. Forward-dating status changes that are expected?

    Thanks.

You are correct with number 1. You can back date status changes to an extent. You cannot have one that is before any other status change on the record to avoid confusing scenarios (such as closing before APPR).

You can forward date status changes, but I've never understood why and it becomes an issue due to the reason listed above (you have to future date everything after that date/time).

Back-dating can happen for a couple of reasons, but most common issue we see is organizations not using a mobile solution. Your technicians wouldn't be able to do the status change when it occurred and someone would have to convert time on paper into data in Maximo. It's easy to say this shouldn't happen in 2020, but there are still a lot of organizations that issue paper WO to technicians to perform the work.

It wouldn't require it being editable in the UI, but another common use case is data loading legacy WO information into Maximo. If you were sending data from SAP for example, you would want to be able to load the dates as they were in the other system to ensure that you have the history you need moving forward.

It's pretty easy to make this read-only on the Maximo side (a global data restriction on WOCHANGESTATUS to make the status data read-only). On Anywhere it can be done as well, but you have to be comfortable with screen changes there to make those inputs read-only.
