  • 1.  Change interface language

    Posted Tue March 30, 2021 01:16 PM

Hello, i have a problem trying to change the system language. By default, when the application was installed, everything was in a unknown language for me (i think it was Russian). With some help of videos about how we change the language, i manage to change the language in some features, but not in every one. Surely, my knowledge is not strong on this subject, but if there is any help about this i ll be grateful. By the way the change of the windows language from local to English dint help.

In the link below, there is an example of my issue.

Wow. What a mess. You should set both the output language and the user interface language to english using edit > options > language or the syntax equivalent

    set olang=english locale=english unicode=on.

You should have no data open when you do this; then restart Statistics. It looks like you may have already done this, but do it again with syntax to make sure.

But I think there is something more going on here, because, for example, the row numbers in the Data Editor Data View are also scrambled, and they should be displayed correctly with any settings, because they are just numbers.

After running the SET command above, run

    show olang locale unicode.

    and post the output.

Also, what is your computer type and operating system locale and language?

    Thank you for your reply.

I tried these to syntax through copy-paste, as i cant even write in english to syntax, and even the output said it was sucessfull, there is still no change.

    i run the show olang locale unicode, and below are the results;

    System Settings

    Keyword   Description   Setting

    OLANG   Output language   English

LOCALE   country and character set   en_US.windows-1252 (English)

UNICODE   Whether the Processor is operating in Unicode mode   Yes

    Hmmm.

You didn't answer the question about OS and the OS locale.

I noticed in your image that the Options dialog title was correctly displayed. That information might be helpful.

I see that even the corner in the DE display above where "1" should show has text in it, although it should be blank.

The goofy text in the menu bar seems to mostly match the length of the English text, so this is not an interface language problem. It might be a font problem. To test this, open the Edit > Options dialog. Then, on the right side there are two dropdown lists. The lower one is for the SPSS look and feel. Try changing the selected entry to see if any of those choices show the text properly. I have no idea why there would be a problem here, but it's worth a try.

Dear Jon thank you again for your reply. I tried these advice but didnt work. However, that made me think if there was any issue about the font on my system, not only in the spss. So after i disable the font smoothing, everything is running perfect.

So, thank you again. If you didnt tell about the fonts, probably i will be still wondering whats going on.

    Hello,

I don't think it is an interface language problem. It look like a problem in font. You can go for correcting text. It will be helpful.
