    You cannot, if the disk in part of a volume group. In this case you have a few possibilities :

    1) Migrate the physical partitions from the disk, remove disk from the volume group, run the chdev command , add disk back to volume group then migrate back the physical partitions ;

    2) Vary off the volume group then run the chdev command ;

    3) Run chdev with the -P option and reboot the server ;
