This is a question from the November 3 GWC webcast titled "What's new in Decision Management and BPM?"

Sorry for the delay.  Yes, the Rule Execution Server within Operational Decision Management does integrate with the Process Server runtime of IBM Business Process Manager (the new combined product for WebSphere Process Server and Lombardi BPM).

The best practice is to leverage Process Management to define and orchestrate end-to-end processes that are concerned with the operational efficiency of the organization, and Decision Management to define and execute specific decision points within processes and applications that are concerned with the operational intelligence of the organization.

    Below are some options:

    1. Within IBM Business Process Manager's Process Designer, built-in rule authoring is available using the BAL editors from the Operational Decision Management (JRules) product.  These are used for rules embedded within a single process such as routing and task assignment.

    2. Within the same Process Designer, there is a JRules Decision Service component that can be dragged-and-dropped onto any Process Designer service and automatically connected to a decision service running on Operational Decision Management's Rule Execution Server.  This integration allows the Process Designer to dynamically list the available Rule Apps and rulesets on RES, discovery and generate the required types and automatically execute the rule service.

    3. Within IBM Business Process Manager's Integration Designer, use of the LA71 SupportPac (here: www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=s...) provides productivity tools that accelerate the creation of SCA components to invoke decision services.
