If you upgrade to HMC7 then it can control a mixture of POWER5 and POWER6 machines from a single HMC - which is very useful.

The HMC user interface is improved too and web browser based so no longer needing WebSM on your workstation.
OK some Luddites don't like the HMC7 interface but I do and there is no choice for POWER6 and HMC7 is mandatory so we just have to get use to it.

The HMC7.3.3 also has a tree view which is worth the upgrade alone.

really?? HMC 7 royally stinks, it is obvious the person(s) developing that don't use it on a daily basis.

it is nice the management interface is web based now but the <censored> person who decided to reset the window size every time the page reload should be fed to fire ants or African bees, even the need to reload the whole page after each selected option is bad enough.

I'd really rethink how cumbersome websm was before making such statements about version 7. As Nigel stated, its got many improvements that make it worth the upgrade. Its much faster when switching frames, the VIO tie-in is better, the property windows load quicker and the speed improvement over slow/vpn-like connections is wonderful.
