  • 1.  CA11.1 Visualisations - what's the purpose of interactivity?

    If a CA11.1 visualisation is in a report you can interact it with it by clicking on it. 

    In this sample I have clicked on 75+ Female part of the chart.

    Apart from highlighting part of the chart that has been clicked on, what is the purpose of this click functionality?  Can it be used for anything. I feel like I am missing something.

    I guess they simply transferred it from Cognos Dashboard, where it does have a purpose. Apart from that, I could not find any use for it in Reporting yet. 

    Maybe there is a way to hack into the visualisation's update method. :D

    I believe if you add another visualization you can use that click to filter the other visualization by the selected properties. This is the function I use commonly in dashboards. I very seldom use visualizations other than tables in reports myself.

    If the visualisation is a map, you also have the option of changing the layers - satellite view etc

    Hi Marc, In the second half of this video "interactive brushing" is anounced for 12.1. I guess the highlighting part is a first step into that direction. Regards, Philipp

    Thank you Philipp, that's what we all are waiting for. In a nutshell, they are planning dashboard functionality in reports.
