    The service guide:
    http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/pseries/v5r3/index.jsp

    says on page 4-24:

    Table 4-3. Firmware Checkpoints

    Checkpoint Description Repair Action
E240 Setup Winbond ISAbridge 1. Replace System Planar

I'd try taking it all apart and putting it back to gether again to reseat all of the connectors first.

    The service guide

    http://www.g8wrb.org/useful-stuff/IBM/RS-6000/7043-43P-Series/380511.pdf

    says

Flashing 888, followed by additional error
    codes.
    Report the error code sequence.

    Any thoughts ?

Diag info for multi bus systems.
    Search 0070
This is the 888 map, on page 51 in my copy.
At the 888 message press the orange reset button and record the new code - 102 or 103, press it again and record the next code, and once more for luck.
You should now have the full crash code.
Yes, it tried to boot AIX this time but crashed.
The problem could be hardware or software.
When you have the code you should have a good idea of whether it is hardware or software.
If hardware you should have a good idea of the device with the problem.
If it shows a scsi problem for instance, try removing the scsi devices one at a time to see if one of them is hanging the bus (POWER IT OFF AND UNPLUG THE POWRE LEAD BEFORE PLUGGING OR UNPLUGGING ANY ADAPTERS OR SCSI DEVICES, EVEN EXTERNAL ONES!). Just because the system might say the scsi adapter has failed it does not mean that for sure, it might be just a bad device like a tape drive on the bus causing the problem....
If software you can either try to fix it with a service mode boot from an AIX install CD, restore the system from backup or reinstall it from scratch.
It is possible the system will crash for what it thinks is a software problem but the problem might be caused by bad hardware that was not detected during the boot tests, so if the software is important and you don't have a backup it might be worth trying the minimum config first.
Minimum config (map 1540 in the service guide) just means remove everyting you can get away with and if it boots, add things back one at a time and try to boot, when it then fails the last thing you added is probably causing the problem.
If you want to / need to boot from something other than the hard drive and you don't have the AIX install CDs to hand you can download an ISO of the bootable diagnostic CD from here:
    https://www14.software.ibm.com/webapp/set2/sas/f/diags/download/home.html
Run diags to everything and see what you get.
Please post your progress either if you fix it or need more advice.

Press the reset button and record the numbers and letters until you get back to the 888.
    As I said before:
"At the 888 message press the orange reset button and record the new code - 102 or 103, press it again and record the next code, and once more for luck.
You should now have the full crash code."
Please post the full code in the form 888-10x-xxx-xxx.

Did you follow all of the steps from the start of call map, chapter 2 in "diagnostic information for multiple bus systems"?

All of the information you need to find the faulty component should be in those two books.
