Yes. Build it outside of Maximo first. This ensures that the view gives you the columns and data you want. By creating the view outside, then using the same view's name when creating a new object it will import every column. You still need to update the Title, Description, Search type, SameAsObject and SameAsAttribute. Please do NOT forget to do the SAMEAS where the column being imported should have the same configuration as one already in Maximo. For example I have a new view called 1224 with a Column called LOC123, this should have the same definition as LOCATIONS.LOCATION.
You could until recently create views from inside Maximo, but now you have to do it externally first.

Subject: Best practices for creating Maximo views?
It looks like it's possible to import or create views via the Database Configuration application.
Are there any best practices in Maximo when it comes to creating views?
Thank you.
