  • 1.  Barcode generation via cognos

    Hi,
    We have a business requirement to generate barcodes via cognos reports.
    We have standard product codes and we would like to generate barcodes from cognos.
    In our current setup, we have crystal reports to generate barcode for our warehouse associates and we are planning to migrate crystal to cognos. One of major blocker is barcode generation.
    Online research pointed out to some additional fonts for barcodes. Not sure of the entire approach and if its even possible in cognos.

    Hi there Sudheen,
    We've managed to get Cognos reports to generate barcodes by simply embedding a google barcode font, rather than importing a font into the Cognos application.
    eg: https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Libre+Barcode+128

    This worked for both HTML and PDF based reports.

    I really appreciate your response. So you didnt have you import any fonts to cognos application?
    Can you share an example on how you managed to embed the google font. Thank you in advance.

    Hi @Troben,
    Thank you for the input. Yes, I am able to import fonts and generate barcodes via pdf.
    However, my business use case is to generate barcodes in html for printing purposes.
    Is there any workaround for html? Thank you.​

    Normally, PDF is rendered on the server side (so the font needs to be installed on the CA server) and html is rendered in the browser - on the client side (so the font needs to be installed on the laptop) - could you test this by installing the barcode font on the laptop you are using? Or alternatively, using a browser directly on the server?
