Hi Lacey,
Appreciate and thank you for your quick response and suggestion for dynamic job plan.
We have considered dynamic job plan for work estimates and cost estimates for linear assets which perfectly fits in our requirements around planning.
In terms of scheduling and travel component of the work, we miss the impact of linear assets while scheduling and dispatching work for field resources. When we use single Geo-reference against Work Order, we miss the impact of linear assets which is significant in case of customers in electricity transmission lines. In a single work order, field resources could have travelled along 20Kms against a WO and travel optimization is lost while scheduling in such cases.
So, am trying to see if there are alternatives. One such alternative, am resolving to: based on multi-asset and Work Plan, break Assignments to each multi-asset or segment of linear asset with its geo-coordinates which shall give better spatial optimization.
Can you please suggest if this looks better or any alternatives from scheduling perspective.

Hi, have you checked out Dynamic Job Plans? This functionality was introduced in Maximo in v 7.6.1.1 (so fairly recently) and the intended purpose is to calculate duration and estimated labor hours for linear work. For example, if you are inspecting 1 mile of track, it will take only 15 minutes but if you are inspecting 10 miles of track it will take 150 minutes. This will help with planning so that your work order has the correct duration and estimated labor hours to incorporate when scheduling and assigning work. Spatial optimization works a bit different - it uses a single coordinate per work order to calculate travel time between work orders, for example if work order A has a duration of 30 minutes and it takes 10 minutes to drive to work order B, and work order B is a duration of 30 minutes, then that is 1 hour and 10 minutes out of your day. It doesn't incorporate multiple points per work order to calculate travel time currently.
This is a good overview of dynamic job plans.

My client has a scenario: If I have multiple spans of a linear asset as part of work order defined as mult-assets. How Maximo Assignment considers these linear asset spans for travel distance based optimization? Does it consider them as linear asset and travel time across the assets or does it just consider the service address (as single reference point similar to point assets)?
