Anywhere WT lookup data: Changes-only option only works on second attempt

  • 1.  Anywhere WT lookup data: Changes-only option only works on second attempt

Anywhere Work Technician 7.6.4;  MAM 7.6.1.2:

    Problem:

When downloading the lookup data using the changes-only option:
    • First attempt: A full download is done (not what we want)
    • Second attempt: Only the changes are downloaded (what we want)

    Question:
Why does the first attempt fail to only download the changes? Has anyone else noticed this issue?

    Detailed Steps:

    1. Cleared the Anywhere WT data.
    2. Opened Anywhere WT and entered URL.
    3. Logged in and did a full/initial lookup data download (~30 mins).

    4. In the settings, tapped the lookup data section.
    5. Chose the "Changes" option.
    6. Unfortunately, it didn't download the changes-only. It did a full download (~30 mins due to 200,000 assets and 50,000 service addresses -- this is normal for a full download).
    7. However, I tried steps 4 & 5 again, and this time, it only downloaded the changes, which is good (~10 secs).
      1. Note: There weren't actually any changes to download. I didn't edit any data.

I performed this test twice and got the same result both times.

Although I haven't seen the issue, I'm saying, it's great that you've got all those records downloaded.   However, some observations:

    1. The duration should be much shorter <10 min for the full download.  Is the server configured to support the load?  That said it's way better than the previous version.

    2. Why are you downloading so many assets and service addresses.  You are better off reducing the number of records, thus shorten the download time.

    3. Why are you forcing the changes?  Maximo Anywhere will quite happily do this without you touching it.  The volume of change must be huge such that you can't wait for Maximo Anywhere to do its bit.

    Hi Craig,

Regarding your questions, I'll answer #3 first for clarity, then come back to #1 and #2.

Good question. We've had a separate, long-standing issue (TS004995105) where Anywhere would never download the changes-only. It always did a full download, even on the second try (forced) --or-- when Anywhere triggered the download. Same problem in both cases.
That issue was only recently fixed: IBM said that the push notifications setting was set to true (app-features.properties --> pushnotification.enabled=true). They said it needs to be false in order for the changes-only functionality to work.
So we've made that change, and are now testing to see if it works properly or not. We're forcing the download for testing purposes.

    •  Yes, we're aware that there is a refresh cycle setting that will automatically download the lookup data after a specified number of days. For testing purposes, we could manually set the refresh cycle to 1-day. But it would be a bit of a pain to wait a whole day each time we wanted to test to see if the changes-only option worked properly. So we're forcing the download instead.

    Thanks.

    Hi User1971,

There are properties in Anywhere to enable delta lookup data download:

Please check if these enabled for your environment.
It can be found in Maximo>Integration>Anywhere Administration>Global Properties

Sometimes these are controlled from Anywhere Worklight properies file in Maximo Anywhere Folder structure. I havent tested what happens if you have contradicting properties in the worklight properties and Anywhere admin global properties.

    Thanks,
    Biplab

Thanks Biplab. It looks like my Anywhere global properties match yours:

I will ask my colleagues to check the other thing you mentioned: "Anywhere Worklight properties file in Maximo Anywhere Folder structure"

    Thanks for your help.

There was a known issue for this (IJ29445) but I'm struggling to access the resource right now due to some access issue (https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/apar/IJ29445). I'm hoping the issue is on my side and you can access it.

    Thanks.

It's strange, I can't access any APARs anymore either. I get stuck on the Get Access page, even though I've entered my IBM Customer Number into the Passport Advantage section.

    ------------------------------------------

I've created a support ticket for this issue:

    Case: TS006805885

    "Hello,

Back on Jul 23, 2021, I was able to access APARs like https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/apar/IJ31235 ... once I entered my IBM customer number into the Get Access page (https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/entitlement/getAccessPage).

But I tried to access that APAR today (https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/apar/IJ31235), and I am getting stuck on the Get Access Page. Whenever I try to navigate to an APAR, it just re-directs to the Get Access page. I can't seem to get beyond that point. I didn't have that problem on Jul 23.

I've removed and re-entered my IBM customer number in the Get Access page, but still no luck.

I *do* have an IBM Passport Advantage account, so I'm not sure why can't I access that APAR. Please note that the APAR is "mine". As in, it was created to solve a case that I submitted. So I should be able to access it.

    Thanks."

I've been told the issue should be resolved and I can now access the APAR links. I know you opened a support case so hopefully you're aware but I thought I'd share just in case.

IBM Support sent me the APAR info so that we don't need to wait for the APAR access issue to be resolved:

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any information in IJ29445 about what the fix is.

APAR IJ29445 - First delta sync performs a full refresh.

    Problem:
In Maximo Anywhere 7.6.4, the first delta sync performed after the full sync completes will result in another full sync.

    Steps to reproduce:
    1. Log in to Maximo Anywhere and perform a full sync, note the asset download as it has a small page size of 100.
    2. After the full sync completes, sync just the changes and you will notice that is syncs all pages of asset over again.
    3. Now run the delta sync again and it will run correctly on the second attempt and sync only the changes.

    Results:
The first delta sync after a full sync results in another full sync. Subsequent delta syncs after that will perform correctly until another full sync occurs and the pattern repeats.

    Expected results:
After a full sync, if the user selects a delta sync is should always perform just a sync of the changes.

    Environment:
    Maximo Anywhere 7.6.4

I can speak to the fix from a client side as its the APAR I was working with IBM on. You will need to request the LAFIX or wait for it to be bundled in to the next fix pack.

If I remember correctly it was they way the Anywhere DB for the app was being handled there was some missing data written on the first download that would allow it to complete a delta the next run.

Thanks. It's strange, I can log in and see the title of it, but the rest of the content is missing from the page.
