Is there any way to change the class or type of existing errors in the template database to, say, put them in "software" class or make them TEMP type so that then the Alert falg can be set?     No not audit, the error log alert capability, see "man errupdate". Anyway, it occurs to me that changing the error class or type in the error log template also causes the error id associated with the template to change. Unlike the Alert field, the other fields are all "hashed" together to generate the Id. There is likely compiled code somewhere that's still going to use the old error id ...
