  • 1.  Adding new users in Maximo

    Posted Wed July 28, 2021 11:05 AM
    Hi,
we have LDAP configuration setup in our Maximo application, so the users are tied to the Active Directory credentials by default,
but we do have a requirement to add users who will not be tied to active directory and should be able to login to application,
is this possible to have both type of configurations?

    Thank you

Yes, if you use federated repositories for the available authentication realms within WebSphere.  Here you can configure to have the LDAP repo (Security > Global Security >  Available realm definitions: Configure) and add any additional ones, like a file-based repo.  Then to add users to the file-based repository you would go under "Users and Groups" > "Manage Users" and add from there.  Websphere will look in all the realms for the user.  The only problem is that the file-based user management (add/delete users, change passwords) will be within WebSphere.  We typically only use this method for non-production environments for adding temporary test users.

Can you elaborate more on the non-LDAP user requirement?  Hollie points out the way in which you would need to do this.  Security also (as you most likely well know) has to also be set up in Maximo, so if you have to manage the users in both places.  However perhaps there is more to the story?  Your other users, are they third party contractors?  In my experience many clients who on-board contractors will still put them in the Active directory for security purposes.   How do you plan on managing the users in general?

Hi, I don't think so that could be possible. You are able only to config Maximo security access through LDAP o using Basic authentication. This includes changes on web.xml file as well on WAS.

Pablo, allow me to clarify.... Security Groups are still necessary and that must be done in Maximo. This provides the application and action permissions.  That cannot be done in LDAP. Can you clarify for me what you mean?  Further is you do choose to use Basic then having users in your federated repositories does indeed become problematic for users to input username and password if NOT and LDAP user.  This is why there is FORM as the third option (MAXIMO/BASIC/FORM) whereby the login form (the usual login splash screen) is displayed.  The user can then sign into Maximo using the Maximo Form.
