We have a Power system running AIX 5.3 that we utilize FTP on throughout the day. We have a number of automated systems that all login with the same user, transfer a number of files (anywhere from one to 40-50 at a time) and sometimes multiple connections at a time doing this. All uploading to the same directory.
This all runs smoothly, but we've periodically had a failure of one of the files transferring. Since last week, we suddenly started having a lot of failures throughout the day. Nothing has changed on the OS and the only real thing that has changed at all is the number of files has increased slightly. I turned on debug logging for FTP and have looked at when failures happen and nothing is standing out to me. For example, today we had three processes create an FTP connection at the same time, one process was steadily transferring files and then another process tried to transfer a file and it failed and the same time it failed, one of the files the other process was transferring failed. There are no failures logged, we just see the login and the successful transfers.
I've tried to simulate the issue with manually connecting with the same account and transferring files while other transfers are happening, and I cannot recreate the issue. I'm not convinced the issue is with the AIX server, but wanted to pose the question in case someone might have any suggestions.
