CA Extension to replace Welcome screen branding text with custom HTML snippet (for CA V12)

Thu March 07, 2024 05:42 PM

Cognos themes allow you to add your own branding text to the Welcome page, by setting "brandText" in the theme spec.json file. However, you are limited to that. This extension allows you to go further, by replacing the brandText with your own HTML snippet (with accompanying CSS styling).

WARNING: This extension operates based on the structure of the Welcome page in CA V12.0 (specifically on the CSS classes of some elements). In a future release of CA, the structure of the Welcome page may change in a manner that this extension will no longer function (without some modifications to adapt to the new Welcome page layout).

Before applying the extension:

After the extension is applied, the "Jim branding" text is replaced with an HTML snippet (with hyperlink, multiple DIVs, different CSS styling applied to each of font color/size):
Instructions for adding your own custom HTML snippet to the Welcome page:
1. you need to apply a custom theme (that sets brandText) (as the extension is setup to replace this).
2. download this extension: custombrandtext.zip
3. unzip it (you'll get a folder named "customBrand")
4. edit the file customBrand/customBrand.html to replace my sample HTML snippet, with yours
5. (optionally) edit the file customBrand/login/css/customWelcomeText.css, to provide CSS styling for elements in your HTML
6. Compress/zip the customBrand folder (creating a new customBrand.zip file)
7. in CA UI, got to Manage>Customization>Extensions and press the upload icon (top right corner of the tab)
8. When prompted, select the customBrand.zip file you created
