Planning Analytics

Hello all,

Another topic on synchronisation of data/selections. The use case is as follows.

The user has a view in PAW and drags out the Scenario dimension to become a selector. Scenario subset is Default let's say.

Then a PAfE websheet is dragged and dropped on the canvas in PAW. Synchronisation is set and the view and websheet respond to changes in the senario selector. SUBNM's in Excel update.

However, once I hide the row of the Scenario SUBNM in Excel, publish again, delete the websheet from the canvas, add again, set synchronisation: all selectors keep on working, the one for Scenario is not available anymore for synching.

Does this mean that all SUBNM's for synching need to be visible all the time ?
Same issue with grouping rows/columns, no option to set the synching for these SUBNM's.

And I disagree, for instance because this can occur as well:

=SUBNM( "BIG Sales budget:Sp_Custer"; ""; "TEST VALUE THAT DOES NOT EX

When the server name is incorrect we get an error. Fine.

However, once the server name is fine, we can enter wrong dimension names, wrong element names...
They all pass and are shown as the result of the SUBNM formula. To me this makes no sense at all. They do not exist in the dimension !

Hi Wim,

This is how it works since websheet SUBNM synchronization was introduced. There are several workarounds:

• Give the row/column minimum height/width
• Make a white rectangle to hide the SUBNMs
• We first faced this when process parameters synchronization was not introduced and we needed to make a websheet with action button and SUBNMs. This was an easy one: we just hid SUBNMs by an action button

But they are really lame. I think it's better to submit this bug as an idea: many will vote

Thanks for this but it I don't understand the need to lock cells and the sheet. What do they add in terms of value ? In my case nothing is changing.
When I add the white font, the SUBNM's are not 'visible' anymore but the downward triangle is still visible. This is not really a solution.
When I hide the rows with SUBNM, I cannot synch anymore.

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

I have encountered the same issue that the SUBNM must be visible.  
I usually will place the PAW Selector on top of the Excel SUBNM so that it is completely hidden and the downward triangle does not display.

Only skim read this so apologies if I've got the wrong end of the stick.

While the SUBNMs need to be visible, the sheet does not.  Put on a another sheet, change the SUBNMs to link to the other sheet then hide the sheet with SUBNMs.

Then you can hide what you like.

I often use hidden sheets to enable synchronisation, however when doing this with SUBNM's on websheets you may run into the problem described here:

PAX Synch Issue

Ted Phillips from IBM notes:

"Websheets in Workspace offers what is fundamentally a Dimension-Selection synchronization pattern, which is not a Subset-Selection synchronization as you said."

However, once I hide the row of the Scenario SUBNM in Excel, publish again, delete the websheet from the canvas, add again, set synchronisation: all selectors keep on working, the one for Scenario is not available anymore for synching.

Does this mean that all SUBNM's for synching need to be visible all the time ?
Same issue with grouping rows/columns, no option to set the synching for these SUBNM's.
