Connecting to The Weather Company data

  • 1.  Connecting to The Weather Company data

I'm building out a sandbox where I'd like to connect via The Weather Company API.  I deployed the samples following instructions from here: https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/SSEP7J_11.1.0/com.ibm.swg.ba.cognos.ig_smples.doc/c_twc_sample_intro.html
I guess what I'm missing is I don't have a "The Weather Company API" - anybody have guidance on where I can request this?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Albert,

I am on of the new Community managers for Cognos and am just checking in to see if you got a response to your question regarding getting the Weather Company API?

    Hi Nickolus,
No, not on this community, but I do have a contact at The Weather Company that was able to expedite my access to an evaluation API.  I plan to tinker with this over the coming week and I'll share my experiences on the community.
    Thanks for following-up

You have to contact IBM Weather Company re API keys. Info below taken from online docs.

    Before you begin

You must have a Weather Company API key. For more information, see Weather Data Packages (https://business.weather.com/products/weather-data-packages). If you want historical weather data, then you must have the History on Demand Data Package. If you want forecast data, then you must have the Enhanced Forecast Weather Data Package.

Thanks Nigel.  I was able to obtain an API key but have still been struggling to get history and forecast data.  I'm working with them, but unfortunately my attempt to build out a sandbox with this data has been frustrating so far.  I'm optimistic that once my access is resolved I will be able to build out some exciting content.

    Unclear from your prior comment.

Did you receive an API key from IBM TWC?

If so, are you saying that you created a signon for your connection placing the API key into the password, and requests fail?

Yes, I have the API key, it connects, I'm able to load metadata and view Locations data, but no Forecast or History data.  Requests return as "no data".  I've done the appropriate filtering by day and a small subset of locations as recommended, but still no weather data :(

Hi Albert, have you tried downloading the sample here? https://public.dhe.ibm.com/software/data/sw-library/cognos/mobile/C11/TWC/

Does the sample work for you using your key?

You can follow the join examples in the sample and apply the same logic to join the TWC data to your data.

Also, have you submitted an IBM Support case for Assistance? if so, please let me know the case number.

    Hi Jason,

Thanks for the assist, but the API Key I received simply will not return data other than Location.  I am able to load the schemas, but no data, regardless of how narrowly I filter.

I've reported directly to The Weather Company, but no resolution.  I'm moving on, there are publicly available API's for weather...

Believe TWC gave you an incorrect key.

If you were using FM or DataModules and defined a single embedded filter (i.e. on all products) such as postalKey = '12345:US', you should have seen historical data. However their end point would have returned a non-authorized error re forecast.

Location is virtual table within CA (see docs). It is not retrieved from a TWC end point.
