    I am trying to make a line graph in which a data that accumulates over time must be displayed, for that I use running-total (field). For example accumulated monthly sales, when I press tabular data from the query to see if it does it well and effectively, but when it is displayed in the graph it is not shown as a continuous line. Has anyone had that problem? I am using Cognos Analytics 11.1 R3 and the type of chart I am using is Line. This is a report made in a previous version for which a Combination Chart was used where it works but now it has been decided to change the type of the chart.

    Tabular data inside query:

    Chart Line: Doesn't work… Cognos A. 11.1 R3

    Like this, Combination Chart old version

    Any comments?

    thanks in advanced

    Hi Diego

    Just tried to build something similar and I can't see what you are seeing... it's producing the chart I would expect, from a running total..
    Please share your report spec so I can see and reproduce what you have....

    Hi Torben, I appreciate your support:

    There are two years, current and previous and the chart should be like this:

    Where each line is one year, like I said previously, current and last year. And for every year show months.

    Hi Diego

    I can't see what you have included...  the report spec is probably too large for the box to include... so you would need to link to it instead or attach it as a file (using the upload functionality below this box)

    Hi again...

    Looking at your report, I assume it's the "Evolución mensual de pérdidas" on the second tab? But I don't see any "running total" defined for the 2 measure used in that chart? So I would assume you are not calculating the running total? I can see you are calculating it in other charts, but not for a chart with 2 measures.
    The best thing here would be to reduce the report, down to 1 list and 1 chart so you can see what's going on... like I did in the attached report. Then it's easy to see if it's calculating the running total correctly.

    Thank a lot Torben, once again.

    You are right, I fixed that. My new issue is that I need to show the values in each point, but this chart doesn't have a property "Show Values", so I'm trying using IBM Vizualization Customizer for that issuing this:

    "label":[{

                  "content":["Value: ",{"$ref":"metricField"}],

                  "style":{

                     "fill":"blue",

           "font":{"size":11},

                     "location":"outside",

                     "valign":"end"

                  }

    }]

    But it doesn't work yet…

    Thanks in advance.

    Problem Solved.

    I have just downloaded a visualization from Visualization Samples All Cognos Analytics 11 and could modify some attributes.

    Sounds good!

    For Active Reports you need to use the 11.0 visualizations... but for all other reports you should move to 11.1 visualizations... and from 11.1.4 you can also use the custom visualizations where you can customize everything in visualizations by using external libraries like D3 or HighChart/GoogleCharts etc...  more on this also when we launch the Accelerator Catalogue very soon....

    How are you supposed to make use of the visualizations in the zip file?

    Hi, Joreme.

    You can use IBM® Cognos® Visualization Customizer to open the zip file and then,  proceed to customizing: change colors, titles and others properties.  When you finish that, you go to Cognos Analytics/Manage/Administration Console/Library/import visualization.

    Thanks for your reply.  I still don't understand.  We have IBM Cognos Analytics 11.1 R4.  Aren't the visualization already in the tool?

    Actually the tool is not part of  IBM Cognos Analytics,  look at this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgQLdiHJ5yI and you can see how to use the tool to customizing   your chart.

    Hi Jerome

    This Rave customizer is for the older visualizations in Cognos Analytics.... From 11.1 you should only use the "11.1 Visualizations" and since you are using 11.1 R4, you can use the custom visualizations part of Cognos Analytics where you can import D3, Google Charts, HighCharts etc into Cognos Analytics. We will also very soon launch an Accelerator Catalog with more samples of visualizations not already inside Cognos Analytics. You can also customize those further if you want.

    Aha!  Understand now.  Thanks for the clarification and heads-up on future augmentations.
