I just want to confirm that it is not possible to do a multiple selection on a single dimension in PAW that acts as a filter.
We have many instances where a user wants to select two branches out of three or more, or all branches except one. However, from our experience and training we've found that PAW doesn't allow you to select filters like that.

Is this correct? Or is there a feature we do not have on the tool?

Do you mean that users want to select multiple items and then show the result of those items? Like a list with check-boxes as in PowerBI or as in a Pivot table in Excel?

Yes that is exactly what I mean. Like the pivot table in Excel!

    Hi Tarissa,

If you have the dimensions stacked on rows or columns in a view / exploration you can setup a filter and select a consolidation to return its members. See the example attached.

    Hope that helps!

    Michael.

    Hi Tarissa,
Chris Courim below provided description of the functionality we released earlier this year. I understand this is not completely what you are asking about, as it requires users to select multiple elements and clicking to create calculation. My question here is on priorities: is this functionality enough to achieve your request for now? We are looking at adding saving and creating calculations from Set Editor as the next step for enhancing UDCs.

    Hi,

Before Workspace 2.0.53 it was possible to select multiple items, however only the last item selected was used in views.  This was fixed in PAW 2.0.53 so you can no longer select multiple items.  There is an open enhancement request for this feature to be added to Workspace.

Unfortunately, there is not an exact match for the pivot table functionality of multi-select (using check boxes) in PAW when you're working with title elements.

What you can do is put the hierarchy in question on the rows or columns.  Do your multi-select then create an aggregate calculation which can subsequently be put back on the title area as follows.

My preference would be that this functionality work within the subset editor.  That may be of IBM's listening they will create an enhancement request.

You can then move the calc to the tile area.  Summations and rules s/b respected.

    works in v53

Interesting that you can't do that in PAW. In the 'old' Perspectives product you can just select multiple items in the subset editor and click the Roll up button which effectively creates a dynamic consolidation of those items. You can also insert a named subset as though it was a consolidation. So potentially if you don't need Named Hierarchies, you could do this in Perspectives.
