Planning Analytics on Cloud Rich Tier Removal FAQ

By Tracy Peppy posted Tue May 07, 2024 04:57 PM

The Planning Analytics on Cloud team would like to share some FAQ's on topics that are top of mind since the announcement of the Rich Tier Removal.

Q: How can I migrate database objects between dev and prod? Our database is too large to download to my local network. In the RDP, I was able to copy my database directly between prod and dev.

A: The enhancements coming to the File Manager (which will be available before the Rich Tier deprecation) will allow file movement between environments. Stay tuned to the what’s new in the community.

Q: Will I be able to have access to the S:\ drive once the Rich Tier is removed?

A: Yes, we are working on delivering product enhancements to allow the File Manager to access all files on the S:\ Drive. We will also be adding a new capability to control which users have access to the drive.

Q: How can I take a backup/copy of my TM1 Data Folder for archiving purposes without the Rich Tier?

A: The zip/unzip feature was delivered in PAW 95. An extension to that feature is coming in the next few released which will allow traversing and moving “up” a level in the File Manager to the TM1 Data Directory where it will then be possible to select and zip a TM1 Data folder directly though the UI.

Q: I use 7zip to back up my database which is called from a TI process. Will this still work after the Rich Tier is removed?

A: Yes - this will still work.

Q: Will it still be possible to compile TM1py scripts once the Rich Tier is removed?

A: You will still be able to upload python executables to the S:\ drive using the File Manager (or FTP/SFTP). ExecuteCommand is still available for use to run these executables, the same way that you do today. The change is that now, with the Rich Tier Removal, the executables have to be authored on premise before moving the file to the cloud. They will not longer be able to be edited directly on the Rich Tier.

Q: I have 5 Modeler entitlements, what will happen to them once the Rich Tier is removed?

A: Modeler accounts in the Welcome Kit will not longer be able to access the Rich Tier come September. The total entitlements remain unchanged meaning that you can still assign 5 modeler subscription/licences in Planning Analytics Workspace.

Q: How can I keep up to date with the activities surrounding Rich Tier removal?

A: A product banner will be visible to Admins soon, with links to the documentation. A message is displayed upon Rich Tier login, alerting to the September date. We encourage all Planning Analytics on Cloud clients to subscribe to the status page  where we will be posting updates. Watch this space for more updates.

We hope this information helps share more details around the announcement and as always, we welcome your feedback.
