License management in the HATS Admin console

By Sathiya Priya posted Tue October 15, 2024 02:21 AM

The HATS administrative interface enables management of connections and troubleshooting for HATS Web applications.

Under the License Management section in the left navigation frame, there are two panels for managing license information:

  • License Usage Panel: This panel monitors license usage across all application servers in a node. HATS keeps track of the number of connections to host or database resources and logs a message when the count exceeds the number of licenses purchased.
  • License Settings Panel: This panel specifies the type of license you hold, whether it is an authorized user license or a value unit license. If you have an Authorized User license, you can determine the total number of licenses you possess.

Most browsers share the same session by default. To start a new session, open the HATS web application in a different browser, use incognito mode, or modify the application server settings to enable unique sessions per tab.

Scenario 1: With multiple tabs in the same browser.

1.     A single license count will be recorded for the regular window, even if multiple open tabs.

E.g., Accessing HATSProj1 in a  Chrome browser with multiple tabs.

2.     Expand the Connection Management and click on Host Connections, where users can verify the Host Connections details.

3.    Expand License Management and click on License Usage to verify the active sessions.

4.   As mentioned in point 1, accessing HATSProj1 in the same Chrome browser with multiple tabs counts as a single license.

Scenario 2: With multiple tabs in an incognito Chrome browser.

1.     For an incognito tab or private window, a single license is counted even if multiple tabs are open.

E.g., Accessing HATSProj1 in an incognito Chrome browser with multiple tabs.

2.     The license count is taken as "1" by accessing HATSProj1 in incognito Chrome with multiple tabs.

Scenario 3: Two separate incognito Chrome browsers.

1.     For the two separate incognito tab/private windows, a single license count will be taken.

E.g. Accessing HATSProj1 in two different incognito Chrome browser.

Note: The same is applicable for private windows in other browsers.

2.     Here, the license count is 1 for two different sessions in two separate incognito windows in the same browser.

Scenario 4: Two separate Chrome browsers.

1.     A single license count will be taken for the two separate Chrome windows.

E.g., Accessing HATSProj1 in two different Chrome browsers.

2.     Here, the license count is 1 for two different sessions in two separate regular windows but the same browser.

Scenario 5: Two Chrome browsers logged in with two different Chrome user profiles.

1.     Two license counts will be taken for the two regular windows with two user profiles.

E.g., Accessing HATSProj1 in two different Chrome browsers with different Chrome user profiles.

2.     As it is two different user profiles, two host connections will be considered.

3.     Two licenses are taken because of two different host connections.

Scenario 6: Access the host session in two different browsers.

E.g., One session in the Chrome browser and one session in the Edge browser.

Scenario 7: One session in a Chrome browser and one session in an incognito Chrome browser.

1.     One session in a Chrome browser and one session in an incognito Chrome browser.

E.g., Accessing HATSProj1 in a Chrome browser and one session in an incognito Chrome browser.

Summary:

Effective license management is essential for organizations to ensure compliance, optimize costs, and improve operational efficiency. A centralized license management system simplifies operations by enabling administrators to oversee all licenses from a single interface, reducing complexity and enhancing efficiency. This system provides easy access to license information and status, facilitating quicker decision-making and issue resolution. Additionally, it tracks which users are assigned to which licenses, streamlining user access management. By integrating license management with user roles and permissions, organizations can ensure that only authorized users can access specific software or features, enhancing security and control. The HATS admin console plays a vital role in effectively managing licenses for the HATS project.
