In the past, Db2 blocked REORG unload/reload partition parallelism when converting a classic partitioned table space to a partition-by-range (PBR) universal table space (UTS). This lack of parallelism meant that conversions to PBR UTS would run for significantly longer than normal reorganizations of the table space.
We recently enhanced the REORG utility in Db2 11 and Db2 12 so that it can now take advantage of unload/reload parallelism when converting a classic partitioned table space to a PBR UTS table space. Of course, the chosen degree of parallelism may vary, but this enhancement delivers a major performance improvement when you want to convert to the strategic UTS table space type.
Note that this improvement also applies to customers converting from PBR with absolute page numbering to PBR with relative page numbering in Db2 12.
To take advantage of these changes, apply the relevant PTF, based on your version of Db2: Db2 12: APAR PI72455 Db2 11: APAR PI71930
