Expanding Confidential Computing: Intel TDX on 4th Gen Intel Xeon Now Available on IBM Cloud in Frankfurt

Organizations are adopting AI and multicloud architectures faster than ever, but with that growth comes a sharper focus on data privacy and compliance. Regulations like GDPR, HIPAA, and new AI governance frameworks are raising the bar for how enterprises protect sensitive workloads, not just at rest or in transit, but in use.

That’s where confidential computing comes in. By encrypting data during processing, it closes one of the last remaining security gaps in the cloud, allowing businesses to confidently handle regulated or proprietary information in shared environments.

What Makes Intel® TDX® on IBM Cloud different?

Intel Trust Domain Extensions (Intel TDX) create hardware-based, isolated execution environments called Trust Domains. These secure enclaves are designed to protect workloads from cloud infrastructure, hypervisors, and even privileged administrators. On 4th Gen Intel Xeon processors, Intel TDX adds minimal performance overhead while maintaining full virtualization flexibility – ideal for enterprise-grade confidential workloads.

Running Intel TDX on IBM Virtual Servers for VPC extends this protection into one of the industry’s most open and resilient cloud platforms. Customers gain the combined advantages of IBM’s secure-by-design architecture, confidential computing leadership, and Intel’s hardware-rooted trust model – all through familiar provisioning workflows.

Where are IBM Cloud customers putting Intel TDX to work, today?

  • Our finance enterprises use Intel TDX on IBM Cloud to create cloud peer pods for a flexible and cost-effective solution to protecting their customer transactions and risk models while keeping personally identifiable data shielded.
  • A global electronic patient records organization with IBM Cloud chooses Intel TDX to run generative AI document validation and care coding for advanced analytics workloads required to be in a confidential computing environment.
  • Private digital document management companies hosting on IBM Cloud use Intel TDX for AI and ML model protection to train and infer with proprietary datasets and algorithms while preserving IP integrity.

Now live in Frankfurt

We’ve expanded global availability with the new Frankfurt region, enabling EU-based enterprises to deploy confidential workloads closer to their users while meeting local data-sovereignty requirements. The same Intel TDX technology already running in Washington DC (us-east) is now ready to provision in Frankfurt (eu-de) through the IBM Cloud VPC console or API.
