SQL Data Insights (SQLDI) is a feature of Db2 13 for z/OS that brings AI to the Db2 engine. SQLDI identifies hidden insight within Db2 for z/OS to help make better business decisions. This feature does not require any ETL processes to move the data off the IBM Z platform or data scientists to design machine-learning models. By using the SQLDI UI user can add a Db2 table or view as an AI object, then enable AI query functionality and run semantic AI queries directly against the Db2 table or view to gain insight into the data and make business decisions.
If there is external enterprise data outside of Db2 for z/OS, how this data can be used as part of semantic AI query capability?
The solution proposal leverages two other products: (1) Db2 Analytics Accelerator, (2) Data Virtualization Manager (DVM)
- Db2 Analytics Accelerator can store external, non-Db2 for z/OS data in Accelerator Only Table (AOT). This external data can be loaded into AOTs via the Db2 Analytics Accelerator Loader (separate product). A Db2 view on an AOT can be used to train a model, but the semantic query does not work when the vector table is in Db2 for z/OS, and the data is in AOT. Also, the semantic query cannot be shipped to Db2 Analytics Accelerator. Therefore, data from an AOT can be copied into Db2 easily, to train the AI model and to leverage semantic query in Db2 via SQLDI.
- DVM can provide federated access to Z and Non-Z data sources. SQLDI can use this federated access to access non-Db2 for z/OS data sources for both model training and running semantic functions.
For more information please download detailed document which summarizes the technical details about how to leverage semantic queries to achieve better business results with non-Db2 for z/OS Data.
Users may already have Db2 Analytics Accelerator and/or Data Virtualization Manager for other use cases. However, they can consider using SQLDI with one of those products to bring non-Db2 for z/OS data into SQLDI use cases.
