The IBM TechXchange DACH Storage User Group held an IBM Tape & TSLM UserDay on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 featuring innovations in IBM TS4500 & Diamondback Tape Library and TSLM at the IBM Headquarters in Ehningen, Germany.
Customers had an opportunity to connect, network, and attend sessions featuring presentations by IBM and its partners eXstor and SVA.
The event kicked off with an Update on Tape followed by a presentation on eXstor Library and Media Manager (eLMM) – an evolution of IBM TSLM 1.4. eXstor Library & Media Manager provides tape drive and library virtualisation, load balancing and path management for AIX, Linux and Windows server. Secure, consolidated and policy-based access to manage cartridges for applications such as IBM Storage Protect. eXstor has experience with IBM Storage (disk and tape), IBM Storage Scale, and IBM Storage Protect (formerly TSM). In IBM Tape Systems, eXstor has worked on installations, migrations, and support since the first MT 3584.
Another major topic at the IBM Tape User Day was Safeguarded Tape. As new sophisticated ransomware and cyber crime attacks targets backup environments it’s important to protect systems and data following best practices to ensure delivery of critical services. Andre Gaschler gave a presentation on Ransomware & AirGap & Safeguarded Tape and how Safeguarded Tape offers logical offsite protection for tape backup copies.
Thorsten Altmannsberger from SVA presented on IBM Tape Media Lifetime and how to use RestAPI including new ways to monitor Media Lifecycle Progress.
Thank you to all of our speakers: Bruno Friess, Andre Gaschler, Albi Friess, Stefan Neff, Thorsten Altmannsberger, and Nils Haustein and everyone who attended on the day.
Important feedback from attendees was gathered, the format was well received, and valuable and insightful feedback was given to be incorporated into future events.
The key message of the day was: Tape is more alive than ever and has a long future ahead of it. Thank you to our wonderful customers and stay tuned for more IBM Storage News!
