The Petascale Data Protection white paper, published last month, has captured the attention of IT specialists across multiple industries. The paper describes an innovative solution for big data customers to help them scale the data protection of their storage environments up to hundreds of petabytes.　

Industry specialists from the medical, financial, automotive, and computing sectors have welcomed the solution, which uses an IBM® Spectrum Scale™ file system that is integrated with IBM Spectrum Protect™ backup-archive clients and IBM Spectrum Protect™ for Space Management.

Because of its impressive scalability, the solution has potential for implementation across a wide range of industries:

• In the medical sector, where hospitals store ever-increasing volumes of patient data and medical images　
• In the financial sector, where banks and brokerage firms process millions of transactions each month　
• In the automotive sector, where manufacturers manage massive inventories of vehicles and parts to meet ever-changing market demands 　

The paper's authors are Thomas Schreiber, Patrick Luft, and Dominic Müller-Wicke, all members of the IBM Spectrum Protect development team. Dominic Müller-Wicke will be providing details of the solution at the IBM Power Systems & Storage Technical University event, to be held in London, October 24 - 28, 2016.
