Introducing GNU GPG, JQ, and GNU Which
IBM Open Enterprise Foundation for z/OS 1.1.0.4 (OEF) is excited to introduce three powerful new developer tools: Jq, GNU GPG, and GNU Which. These new utilities align with OEF's objectives by simplifying development, modernizing enterprise workflows, and enhancing developer productivity. The latest additions will be available on February 7, 2025 via SMPE install and IBM Container Registry (ICR).
Here's a closer look at the 3 new utilities included in OEF for z/OS:
GNU GPG
GNU GPG is a robust encryption and digital code-signing tool that enables user to securely encrypt and sign data. z/OS users can seamlessly encrypt or sign data before sharing it with their code base. Moreover, a blog covering GNU GPG and how to get started is available here. Read: GPG by IBM Open Enterprise Foundation - An additional layer of security on z/OS
Jq
Jq empowers developers on z/OS to effectively manipulate, filter, and parse their JSON data. It is widely used for developing data transfer and file management programs. Jq offers an intuitive syntax to effectively manage data directly from the terminal. Furthermore, it excels at handling complex data that meets the needs of modern software applications using JSON.
GNU Which
GNU Which is a command-line utility that helps developers identify the location of which executable is executed in the command line. In fact, it is a tool favoured by developers due to its simplicity and ease of use. It is quick, efficient, and saves developers time.
