The IBM Db2 for z/OS Developer Extension team has made available some example materials for silently installing Visual Studio Code preconfigured with Db2 Developer Extension on Windows workstations. By using these materials as a model, an administrator can easily roll out VS Code with Db2 Developer Extension preconfigured with VS Code settings, Db2 connections, and SQL tuning-related settings specific to their environment and install it on multiple Windows workstations.

These example materials include:

• A Powershell script that automates the installation and configuration of VS Code and Db2 Developer Extension
• Several example json files that can be used as models for preconfiguring Db2 Developer Extension settings, Db2 connections, and SQL tuning-related parameters
• A readme that provides instructions for customizing the script and json files

Using the example materials to silently install VS Code and Db2 Developer Extension provides the following benefits:

• VS Code and Db2 Developer Extension can be quickly and consistently rolled out across a user community.
• An administrator can predefine the Db2 connections, SQL Tuning Services servers, and tuning profile associations that they want to make available to their users, which means that users don’t need to manually define these items and can start using Db2 Developer Extension productively immediately after the installation completes.
• An administrator can define the initial VS Code configuration settings for things like the location of the jcc license and required port numbers, which helps ensure that the Db2 Developer Extension environment is consistent for all users.
