How to monitor SD-WAN Technologies in IBM SevOne NPM

By Basak Vogt posted Tue July 04, 2023 09:39 AM

How can we leverage SevOne to monitor SD-WAN networks, such as  Velocloud?

What are the pain points of monitoring SD-WAN devices? We might have several vendors that should be monitored, under Multitenancy models we might have difficulties to observe client-based reports. Maybe we need to create several reports for each client.

What is important for Managed Services Providers? What are the values of the clients of the MSPs? As we all know Multitenancy is very important for the MSPs and low maintenance required up to date to the tools. Integrations with incidents, and CMDB is also important for multi customer environments.

There are few more important points additionally above of SD-WAN monitoring in multi-customer, multi-tenant environments as well.

  • Ability to monitor the health of the network from an underlay and overlay perspective. We can monitor physical network as well as the virtual connections and so on…
  • Application Policies: How can we make sure the policies the Application A has to follow its path; Application B follows its path?
  • Reporting, Baselining fundamentals of SevOne for sure

We can filter any sites based on the priority level We can collect data on the physical network, we can see the devices, traffic of the interfaces, we can see everything as well as the overlay technology.

We can see the paths, we can see the status, jitter, packet loss, latency and everything is important on the overlay and underlay.

We can see the physical connections, traffic, we can see the sessions, and this is in the underlay connections like network as well as overlay and we can see the paths.

We can see the paths between different locations. We can see the. Path jitter, path latency, path loss and lots of data.

As we have different technologies running on the same place, we have underlay and overlay so we need to correlate these technologies in order to understand where the problem is or not…

We can not only collect all the data but also, we need to correlate data between them. One part is collecting metrics of performance on the links. We need to also make sure our policies are compliant and review application switching.

How can we show it’s normal or not? One of the function we can say is anomaly detection in SevOne.

The ability that we have in SevOne to show not only the traffic path but also the type of the traffic that the path is following. Allows us to make sure that the policies we have are places correctly.

At the end of the day one of the most important value for SevOne is to be simple to watch the performance of the metrics of the different technologies and to correlate everything in a single report.
