Welcome to Product Potpourri Episode 5

Welcome to our latest edition of Product Potpourri!  Below you’ll find questions raised by students from the Apptio University Instructor-led classes.  As an Instructor, I always enjoy having a great discussion in class about any of our Apptio products or functionalities.  Hopefully, these questions and answers will help you with questions you have had as well!

  • Can one compact slicer affect another compact slicer on a report?
    • The two slicers will affect one another, and here’s an example. My first slicer was for Applications and a second for Application Owners. I selected Amazon Web Services for the Application, and for my second slicer, the name Catarina Hoak was now at the top of the list.  This is because Catarina is the owner of the Application Amazon Web Services, the second slicer had been affected by the first slicer to bring her name to the top.
  • Can I delete my own projects in Apptio? Like if I make some test projects can I delete them?
    • In this case, you would need to contact the Apptio Support Team. If you would like to have a project deleted you will need to request this from them directly.
  • What are the closed months setting in date partitions used for?
    • An example of when you may use the closed month's functions is when you’ve completed reviewing a selected time period. For instance, if we had a project covering FY2019-2021 and I have finished reconciling 2019.  Now that it’s reconciled I want to make sure no other changes occur to this time period.  I can use the closed months setting to lock FY2019 so no further changes can be made.
  • The Reference Application only works as a sandbox for CT, is there also one for ITFMF?
    • In this case, the answer is no, but it’s always recommended to bring this up with your Apptio Team as a product enhancementd request.

Thanks again to all the great students who asked these questions in class and we’ll be looking forward to seeing all of you in our future classes!

@Guillermo Cuadrado Let me know if you find anything interesting.  I always appreciate seeing your replies and posts that dig in a bit more.

Interesting cases. On a related topic (#1), I haven't experimented yet with nested Slicers. According to the manual you can do it, but it seems somewhat convoluted. Maybe I'll give it a shot in a test report sometime soon. #productpoutpurri
