    HI,

Can anybody who has dealt with,  EOL and EOS of IBM case foundation provide me insight on the path you selected to move forward with the existing case foundation solutions? Need some insight on license management as well.

    Hi Sameera,

Can you provide a little more detail on "existing case foundation solutions"?  We have gone through process and would be happy to share if I could understand more about which pieces you are dealing with.

    Hi @Chuck Hauble

    Thanks for the reply!

The customer has few solutions developed mainly using the content management capabilities to save documents in repositories.

Custom-made(.Net) workflow solutions are running around those content repositories. Basically, main focus is on the content management capabilities.

    Hi @Sameera Wijayarathne,

IBM Case Foundation was a lower-cost license option that included only a subset of the capabilities of the IBM Case Manager product (fewer features, lower cost).

As with full IBM Case Manager, all Case Solutions will continue to operate, mostly, as-is after the upgrade to BAW (you'd do a Case Solution Upgrade as usual).

You then have the choice to promote your Case Solutions to Case-enabled Workflow Solutions to take advantage of new, modern features provided by BAW.

That said, there are two separate problems you need to address:
    1. You need to talk to your IBM or Reseller sales rep to discuss the license trade up, it is not one for one and there may be additional costs in some cases.
    2. Once that's executed, you'll be able to get access to the new software and do the actual upgrade.

As @Christos Chorattides linked below, though, as long as you do the trade up and continue to pay your S&S, the upgrade is not mandatory and IBM will provide continuing support (which means they'll answer your tickets and help with troubleshooting but they cannot guarantee fixes for bugs or vulnerabilities).

    Hope this helps!

    Best,
    Eric

Thanks, @Eric Walk your answer helped me to clear up all the doubts.

One more area to clarify, If we are introducing BAW to a new customer, Can we expect the same type of content management capabilities(High volume) as we experienced with Filenet and Case Manager apart from the all advanced features offered with the BAW?

IBM Case Foundation was actually around long before IBM Case Manager (which was built on top of it - hence its renaming from FileNet BPM).

Other than the teaser bundling of IBM Case Manager (Limited Use License) at a later stage of its life, IBM Case Foundation really just retained its former FileNet BPM use cases which was building processes primarily around FileNet content.

This FileNet process capability is built into the CPE and is all still there. What is EOLing is just the "offering" not the "technology". When you move to BAW, in addition to all the new capabilities, you also get the license to continue using the FIleNet process engine and tools exactly as you are doing now.

So basically there is no need to change anything or even download and install all the bits that are included with BAW (case+process and the latest CPE). FileNet processes will just continue to run exactly as they do today and the BAW license will cover their use.
