  • 1.  Holiday schedule is not reflecting in existing tasks on Production

    Posted Mon March 03, 2025 11:03 AM
We have observed an issue in the production environment, which currently has over 300 active tasks. A holiday (Bank Holiday in Qatar) for the 2nd of March 2025 was recently added to the system. However, we noticed that the due dates of existing tasks were not affected by the newly added holiday.

We expected that the due dates would automatically adjust to ensure they don't fall on the holiday. Instead, the due dates are still falling on the 2nd of March 2025, despite it being marked as a holiday in the system.
The IBM BPM version is 8.6.2.21020
Is it possible that if we upgrade to the latest version of IBM BAW 2024, then this issue will got resolved?

    Hi Muhammad,

I notice it's been two weeks since your original question, so you've likely found a solution by now... Regardless, I wanted to provide a response just in case you, or anyone else, run into this again.

So let's start off by simply saying...yea, you're right. When a new holiday is added to IBM BPM's calendar, existing task due dates don't automatically adjust. This occurs because IBM BPM calculates due dates at runtime, based on the start date of the process instance or runtime task. Once calculated, these dates aren't automatically recalculated when calendar changes occur later.

I'd also like to add that upgrading to BAW 2024 likely won't fix this limitation. Even in the newer versions, the architecture uses the same runtime calculation approach rather than continuously monitoring for calendar updates.  Link

As for how to fix...the simplest route I can think of would be to have your administrators or members of the instance owners team use Process Portal to filter tasks by the March 2, 2025 due date and update them in batches to March 3. If this is too cumbersome you could instead use the REST API approach with a script that queries tasks with the specific due date and updates each accordingly.

    Best Regards,

Thank you, Martin, for the confirmation. As we are revamping from Captaris BPM to IBM BPM in one of the banks in Qatar, I was curious about this behavior. Captaris BPM supported it, but IBM BPM does not, which is why I was wondering about the difference. We understand the workaround you mentioned.

    Thanks again for your support.
