With the introduction of IBM Business Automation Workflow (BAW) about two years ago, IBM started a journey to combine the strengths of IBM Case Manager (ICM) and IBM Business Process Manager (BPM) into a single offering.
Since Dave Perman
blogged
about the state of the integration a year ago, major enhancements have been released to significantly improve the development and end-user experience.
Key highlights of the capabilities as of BAW 19.0.0.3 (released in December 2019) are:
Unified Workflow Center to manage Process Apps and Case solutions
New Workflow project type combining Case and BPM artifacts
BPMN Processes implementing a Case activity are created as part of the Workflow project
Case objects allow to easily and dynamically read/write Case and Case activity properties from within BPMN processes
For each Case role a BPM team is created with changes to the members of the Case role being synchronized to the team
User tasks in BPMN processes that use a team backing a Case role are displayed in the respective role-specific in-baskets
Ability to customize custom Process Activity Details Pages providing the ability to combine Case widgets and BPMN user tasks on one page
The document
Moving from IBM Case Manager to IBM Business Automation Workflow - Development and End-User View.pdf
(currently version 1.0) covers above and more in detail.
Have fun exploring the great integration capabilities between the Case and the BPM capability in IBM Business Automation Workflow 19.0.0.3.
