An environment that supports HTTP protocol, such as LAN TCP/IP, WiFi, cellular, or satellite communications is required.

For bar code scanning, a 5 mega pixel camera with auto focus is required.

Software Requirements

The following software is used with Maximo Anywhere:

MobileFirst Server must be deployed to an application server. The application server can be configured so a specific profile is assigned to MobileFirst Server. Note that MobileFirst Server does not support Oracle WebLogic Server. If your enterprise environment runs WebLogic Server, install a new application server that supports MobileFirst Server.

MobileFirst Server requires a production-grade database instance. You can configure an existing Maximo database server for MobileFirst by creating a database instance or multiple database schemas. Note that MobileFirst Server does not support Microsoft SQL Server.

For more information, see the MobileFirst system requirements.

  • The Android SDK, API 14 or higher, is required to build Maximo Anywhere mobile apps. Building with the android-23 platform and running on Android 6 is also supported. For the interim fixes on version 7.6.1, you must build using the android-23 platform version. Ensure that you startup your Android SDK Manager and download the Android 23 platform before rebuilding the android apps. For push notifications, Android 28 SDK is the minimum supported version for Android apps.
  • Google Chrome is required to view the deployed applications in the MobileFirst Console.
  • The Oracle Java Development Kit (JDK) is a prerequisite for Android development and its subcomponent, the Java Runtime Environment (JRE), is required to run MobileFirst Studio. The following versions are supported:
    • For building with Android using the latest build tools, Oracle Java 1.8 is required
    • Oracle Java SDK/JRE/JDK 7.0
    • Oracle Java SDK/JRE/JDK 6.0 Update 45
  • Other Java SDKs are also supported for some components:
    • IBM Java SDK/JRE 7.0, for the IBM MobileFirst Server
    • IBM Java SDK 6.0, for the IBM MobileFirst Server
    • Oracle Java 1.8 is now supported for the IBM MobileFirst Server
  •  IBM MobileFirst Server version 7.1.0.0 is required to deploy Maximo Anywhere in a production environment. MobileFirst Server is installed with Maximo Anywhere Version 7.6.1.
  • For support of Windows devices on Windows, you must also ensure that Visual Studio Tools is installed:
  • Also for support of Windows devices on Windows, you must install the Certificate and Visual C++ prerequisite on each Windows device . You must also download and install the Visual C++ 2012 prerequisite  on each Windows device.

Other Software Information:

  • Multitenant environments are not supported.
  • A Windows device that has a low camera resolution might result in poor performance of the camera barcode scanner. You can tell that a device's camera has low resolution if you point the camera to a barcode and you cannot make out the difference between the lines due to blurriness. Such devices need an enlarged barcode picture. You can tell that it is enlarged enough when you can make out the difference between two lines in a barcode from the device's camera.

  • If your virtual keyboard is not working on Windows 10, follow these instructions

Recommended System Requirements for Mobile Devices

*NOTE: IBM recommends against using devices with operating systems not supported by the operating system vendor (ex.  Apple, Google, Microsoft).  IBM does not support running IBM software on these operating systems.  The support state for these operating systems is dynamic, so this statement overrides any statements specific to operating system versions below.

For Android devices:

  • 4, 5, or 6
  • Recommended: At least 1 GB of RAM
  • Multicore CPU devices with a benchmark score above 900

For iOS devices:

  • 8, 9, 9.3.1, and 10
  • Recommended: At least 1 GB of Ram
  • CPU devices with a benchmark score above 700

For Windows tablets:

  • Recommended: At least 1 GB of Ram
  • 32 and 64-bit systems with Windows 8.1 or Windows 10
  • Multicore CPU, and 64-bit

Bar Code Types

Bar codes are supported with Blue-tooth enabled external scanner and device camera.  If the device has an in-built bar code scanner - then it is not supported.

For Android devices, Maximo Anywhere supports the following bar code types:

  • UPC-A and UPC-E
  • EAN-8 and EAN-13
  • Code 39
  • Code 128
  • QR Code
  • Data Matrix (‘alpha’ quality)
  • ITF
  • Aztec Code

QR code works for simple scans with one value only, such as the WO number.

For iOS devices, Maximo Anywhere supports the following bar code types:

  • UPC-A
  • UPC-E
  • Code 39
  • Code 39 mod 43
  • Code 93
  • Code 128
  • EAN-8
  • EAN-13
  • Aztec
  • PDF417
  • QR

For Windows devices, Maximo Anywhere supports the following bar code types:

  • UPC-A
  • UPC-E
  • EAN-8
  • EAN-13
  • ITF
  • Code 39

RFID

  • Only Bluetooth RFID scanners are supported with Android, iOS, or Windows.
  • RFID scanners must be in HID profile. Refer to your device's owner's manual to determine whether the device can be enabled in HID profile and how to set it.
  • All frequencies (UHF, HF, LF) are supported as long as the RFID scanner is Bluetooth enabled and in HID profile.

Map information

Maximo Anywhere Version 7.6.1 supports Maximo Spatial Asset Management 7.5.0.1 to provide positioning information that determines the location of a work order on a map. If your enterprise system includes Maximo Spatial, positioning information is obtained from work order objects that are linked to a map feature.

If Maximo Spatial  is not utilized, positioning information is obtained by using non-linked objects.

For more details, see the Maximo Anywhere 7.6.1 knowledge center.

ESRI offline tile packages (TPK) can be processed to display base map tiles on Windows systems. Unlike iOS and Android systems, the map control uses JavaScript to consume offline TPK files on Windows systems. This capability supports TPK packages built using web mercator projection with spatial reference WKID 102100 (EPSG 3857) only. For more information about this projection, see the Spatial Reference.

This restriction is for base map tile projection on Windows systems only. Android and iOS offline maps work with other ESRI-supported projections. Coordinates for Maximo work orders are maintained through the Maximo Spatial configuration. Spatially enabled work orders are transformed to web mercator at the time of the projection within the map control.

For geographical information system (GIS) data that is maintained in other coordinates, such as NAD83 or New York East State Plane Coordinates, ESRI software offers the ability to reproject the data in web mercator at the time of the TPK package creation.

Push Notification

In 2019, push notification support has been migrated  from Google Cloud Message (GCM) to Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM).  If your organization has a firewall that restricts the traffic to or from the Internet, you must complete the following steps:

  1. Configure the firewall to allow connectivity with FCM in order for your FCM client apps to receive messages. The ports to open are 5228, 5229, and 5230. FCM typically uses only 5228, but it sometimes uses 5229 and 5230. FCM does not provide specific IP, so you must allow your firewall to accept outgoing connections to all IP addresses contained in the IP blocks listed in Google’s ASN of 15169.
  2. Ensure that your firewall accepts outgoing connections from MobileFirst Server to fcm.googleapis.com on port 443.
