  • 1.  Loading Depreciation Information for Assets using MIF

    Posted Tue October 12, 2021 04:57 PM

Unable to load depreciation schedules for assets through MIF.

When adding depreciation schedules for assets manually (on the application), the depreciation schedule will automatically generate; however, IBM support confirmed that MIF currently does not have this type of functionality – if you try and use MIF as it currently is, the depreciation schedule will not generate and the depreciation of the asset does not trigger. Within a case I had opened previously, IBM support stated:

    • “Since the code that performs the calculations and inserts the records for the current schedule is an application bean, this code only exists in the UI. There has been no code designed for the MIF to handle deprecation schedules at this time. For this reason, this would be considered as a Request for Enhancement. You may be able to create an automation script to function as the application bean does”

I have since created a RFE (https://ibm-ai-apps.ideas.ibm.com/ideas), for those interested. If you would like IBM to include this functionality within MIF, please vote for the change.

In the meantime, I am curious if anyone has dealt with this issue already? If so, would you be kind enough to provide the automation script / other method, that allowed you to be successful?

    Thanks so much!

Have you tried using MXLoader? I had created an Object Structure for object DEPTRANS and used this to load pre-calculated depreciation for a set of assets.

    Thanks for the feedback.

I have used MXLoader in the past but was unable to get the financial-related depreciation information working properly.

What I attempted within MXLoader was using the MXASSET as the primary object and then under it, I had DEPRECIATION and DEPSCHED as these were the objects referenced by the STARTINGCOST, DEPRECIATIONID, DEPSCHEDNUM, etc. These housed the information I thought was required to get depreciation schedules set up for the assets.

I had not tried using DEPTRANS for loading purposes. I noticed within the DEPTRANS table there is a CURRENTVALUE attribute. I am assuming this translates to the ASSET.CURRENTVALUE attribute as well? When you used the DEPTRANS object structure did you basically do all the depreciation math prior to loading the information? If so, do you need to do a new upload each year to update the current value of the asset?

If you don't mind sharing how you set up your loading sheet, I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks for the response!

Sorry I realized I replied to the entire post rather than you. Could you please take a look and let me know your thoughts. Thanks so much for your feedback.

    Hi,

I was trying to load the Depreciation Information for Assets using MIF but encountered the same issue; I can populate the base table using MIF but it does not populate the  current schedule; were you able to resolve this issue?

    Thank you!
