Thank you for your answer. The articles were very useful and helped to clarify things, for me it was unclear that the shipped status can be seen as an end status. I tried putting an item to obsolete after it has been shipped. This is also possible so my question has been answered.

At SHIPPED status the Inventory Usage record is read-only, you cannot change to COMPLETE. Shipments are used with Transfers so when they have left the storeroom from the Inventory Usage point of view the record is now complete, as it is now being taken up by the shipment record. There is a case where in Shipment Receiving the items are rejected in which case the Inventory Usage status is changed from Shipped to Complete.
One of the articles provides the status flow for Inventory Usage.
If you have found that an item cannot be made OBSOLETE because it exists on an Inventory Usage document with a SHIPPED status, then you would have found a bug.

I am using maximo 7.6 inventory usage app to transfer an item. I set the status on inventory usage to shipped. I go to shipment receiving app and receive the item. When I go back to the inventory usage app I see that this changes the receipts status to complete. But the inventory usage status is still shipped and if I to try to change status on this record from shipped to complete I get an error. Should I be able to change inventory usage status from shipped to complete or does it always stay as status shipped?
Just to be clear, the inventory balances are adjusted correctly when I received the shipment using the shipment receiving application.
I think that if I am not able to change the inventory usage type to complete, there will always be an open transaction and will therefore not be able to change item statuses to obsolete. Apart from that, for the end users, the status shipped might still seem as if the inventory usage is not fully completed.
Can anyone provide me with an answer or some help on this topic?
