  • 1.  Automatically adding associated Inventory Items

This is an odd question but are any of these possible:

Any time you use a certain item on a work order an associated item is automatically added to the work order. For example I associate Item A with Item B. I record 5 of Item A onto a work order and then 5 of Item B would automatically added to the work order. Likewise anytime I add Item B to a work order Item A is also automatically added.

Create an item hierarchy so that any time I use a parent Item all the child items are automatically applied to the work order. Item B is a child of Item A, I add 5 of Item A to a work order, 5 of Item B is also automatically added.

(All the items automatically added would be from the same storeroom if there is not enough stock then a warning message would appear)

Seems to me you're talking about a kitted item, although there are differences.

    With a kitted item:

    • you have a main item that has children items.  This is done via the Item Assembly Structure, where you specify how many of each child item are included in the main item.
    • You create the main item by using the "Assemble Kit" command.  While assembling the kit, Maximo reduces the balances of the children items, and increases the balance of the kitted item.
    • You then issue the kitted item to the work order.
    • If necessary, you can use the "Disassemble Kit" command to break the main item back up into component parts again.

    Hi Shannon,

Thank you for your reply, I'm trying to create a kitted item however whenever I try to assemble this item using the "Assemble Kit" command I get the error message BMXAA1878E - The charge details for a material issue/return have not been specified. More information. Do you know what charge details they are talking about?

A GL account may be missing on one or more of the items that make up the kit.

I agree – take a look at your storeroom record and make sure all of the GL accounts are properly specified.

However, also note:  when you add an item to the Storeroom, the GL accounts from the storeroom are copied to the item (INVCOST table).  So if you add GL accounts to your storeroom record, that will only apply to new items.  Existing items need to be updated separately.
