IBM Champion Spotlight: Christopher N. Winston

By Namitha K posted 7 days ago

In today’s rapidly changing technology landscape, individuals like Christopher N. Winston, Vice President of Strategic Alliances at Projetech, play a crucial role in shaping the future of technology adoption and community engagement. With a deep-rooted passion for innovation and a commitment to empowering others, Christopher was recognised as an IBM Champion in 2024.

Christopher’s favourite product is Maximo. He says, "Maximo, because for it to be as big as it is, it has not lost its core beginnings in architecture and relational database design that is easy to explain, and it comes with tooling to alter it to make it bigger, OR smaller to suit your business in ways that are supported through upgrades!" Maximo’s versatility and robust architecture have made it a standout choice in various industries, reflecting Christopher’s appreciation for adaptable and scalable solutions in technology. He has worked with Maximo since 1996, working through full life cycle Maximo implementations, as well as leading many of the larger version upgrades such as 4.1.1 to 7.6, providing consulting, training development and delivery for all areas of implementations including end users, administrators and report developers. He has also provided sales expertise for over 50 of direct clients, and holds several Maximo Certifications from Maximo 5 through Maximo 7.6 Functional Analyst. In 2023 he was appointed to the Board of Directors for Go Maximo – the Maximo Advocacy Group for Oil & Gas.

Christopher’s dedication to advocacy shines through his preference for teaching. He finds immense fulfilment in engaging with audiences, tackling challenging questions, and continually expanding his knowledge base. This passion for education underscores his approach to community involvement, where sharing insights and empowering others drive meaningful contributions to the tech ecosystem.

As an IBM Champion, Christopher’s motivation to give back to the tech community comes from his belief in the power of collaboration and support. " Maximo is a great product that has grown tremendously, but the community could use help in keeping up, and I am glad to help answering the call”.

Christopher is not able to picture himself in any other field than technology, but in a parallel world he would be interested to work in On-the-job training field. He is really excited to be a Champion so that he can help growing the technology community by sharing knowledge.

He has spoken at different events this year, such as, SWMUG  at IBM Innovation Studio Dallas, GoMaximo at Houston, and PacMUG North at Seattle. Meet him in-person for his below upcoming sessions;

  • Maximo World August 7, 2024 –  at Grand Sonoran D, "Key New Features in Manage and How to Set Them Up" (3:00 PM – 3:45 PM)
  • IBM TechXchange – October  21-24, 2024
    • Session 3369 – Delivered Tools to Configure Maximo / Manage, Supported Through Upgrade
    • Session 3383 – Preparing Maximo 7.6 to Upgrade to Maximo Application Suite

Lightning round:

•               What would be your superpower and why? Transportation instantly to a destination would be great and simplify travel. Think X-Man Nightcrawler.

•               Ice cream or cake? Apple Crisp / Dutch Apple Pie with Vanilla Sauce. And in cakes: Red Velvet or Carmel, but my preferred answer would be the pie options!

•               Cats or dogs? – Dogs, if anything.

•               Summer or winter? – Spring (See where this is going). Best of both worlds.

•               Morning or evening? – Morning – get up and get going. Besides, evening comes for me earlier each year; mornings are the same.

•               eBook or paper book? – Paper. I like the feel of it in my hands and like to crimp pages and highlight in orange.

•               TV shows or movies? Movies.

•               A night out or a night in? Great weather – OUT

•               Cannonball into the pool or dip a toe in first? Cannonball – body adjusts to the trauma faster.

•               Go-to karaoke song? Vehicle – Ides of March.

•               Drive or fly? Fly, although I have never been able to just fly. I still need to drive for some time.
