  • 1.  Subtotal in Cost Data tab

    Posted Tue August 07, 2018 07:04 AM

    Hi,

I don't get my figures straight in the Benchmarking module.

When I look at the figures in the Cost Data tab, the subtotal isn't always correct.

In this case, Delivery contain just one sublevel, IT Service Management. But as you can see, the numbers are not the same... Shouldn't they mach? Or what am I not seeing?

Also when I look in the data I exported to the clipboard, that includes one more post, Internal Services. But even when I add that amount to the IT Service Management sublevel, it doesn't come up to the Delivery figures.

Anyone having a good idea on how to proceed?

    Lars,

My assumption is that you're leverage ATUM 2.0 based on the screenshot and Towers \ Sub-Towers.  The one thing that could be possible happening is if you have Cloud Data.  IT Service Management can be either an On Prem activity or a Cloud Activity.  Since Interactive Benchmarking does not leverage cloud data that data could be getting filtered out as you fetch the actuals back from Cost Transparency.

One way of checking is to go into TBM Studio > Metrics > Cost

    1. Change the Object to IT Resource Towers
    2. Add the Is Cloud column (filter on No)
    3. Add Tower \ Sub-Tower
    4. Verify totals.

    Cheers,

    Ryan

    Hi Ryan,

Sorry, but there is no Cloud Activity.

I have miscalculations in other areas too, End User differ almost 25%. But Storage is spot on. Compute differs around 1 %...

What is the time period that you are fetching from Cost Transparency.  So that way we make sure that we're comparing the Annual Cost correct.  The other metric we can look at is the Annual Cost Metric.  If we are looking at July 2018 (we're fetching June-2017 through June 2018) as an example

I'm looking at May:FY2018 which is the latest period with complete figures.

The problem right now is that the subtotals in the Benchmarking Cost Data view doesn't sum up correctly. When I take the subtotals and add them together, they are for End User 25% lower then what the total for End User says. Or in the Delivery example above the subtotal is 67% lower than the total. How is the total calculated? Isn't it a sum of all subtotals? Or is there some things flying under the radar (like Cloud as you mentioned).

    Lars,

If they are not adding up; I'd suggest opening a support ticket to have support investigate and\or reach out to CSM.  Only thing that I can do is if you go back to Cost Transparency and look at the IT Resource Towers in the Annual Cost Metric and see what the numbers are via the following:

Metrics > Annual Cost > change Annual Cost For (IT Resource Towers) and then pull in the IT Resource Tower, Sub-Tower, Is Cloud.  Lastly change time period to the costs adjust.

Notice that I had to change to August 2019 (for July 2019) cost to show up

    Thanks @Ryan Paul,

I can verify that the figures in Benchmarking correspond to the figures for IT Resource Towers in Annual Cost metrics. So, it seams like it's picking up the right figures.

I'll place a support ticket for the subtotal issue.
