Purpose of the Workflow:  Automatically ingest data from simulated devices into SevOne

Description: in order to see data in SevOne you need either real devices or a simulation tools that is able to generate SNMP data or similar, however we are not always in this situation, or maybe it would take too long to install physical devices or to build a new device in our simulator tool.

This workflow allows you to simulate random data for any object type available in SevOne, including any plugin (SNMP, ICMP, IPSLA, DEFERRED, PROXYPING, WMI...) excluding netflow data, allowing you to test reports or alerts for specific types of objects.

List of requirements:

  • Rapid Network Automation Version: 2024 or newer
  • SevOne Version: 7.0.0 or newer

Setup:

  • Import workflow
  • Edit:
    • Device name: we can use existing devices in SevOne, or new ones (the workflow will create the device if it doesn't exist).
    • Object type: it needs to be created beforehand. We can use OOTB object types or we can create our own object types. The simulation will run in all indicator types available in the object type.
    • Object names: the simulation will create new objects for the object type chosen.
    • Plugin: we need to define which plugin the object type is.
  • Disable automatic discovery and automatic polling of the device. There is some type of data (mainly COUNTER indicators) that won't be simulated correctly if we don't disable those features on the devices
