What a time to upgrade!

By Dennis Corning posted 5 days ago

Optimists will ask what is in it for them and their organization before upgrading.  They would review release notes for new features, enhanced user experiences, security fixes, and support for new network and cloud device types. They would look for features to their user community can use to deliver better business outcomes.  They would review social media posts and attend online sessions and demos to learn more.

Pessimists will say there is never a good time to upgrade software and put it off as long as possible.  Their mantra is if nothing is broken, don’t fix it.  They will review security fixes to avoid scrutiny from their internal security team.  They upgrade when they are forced and under pressure.

Did you know?

Although most agree the right time is a personal decision.

The IBM SevOne Product Team goal is to deliver incremental customer value each release that customers cannot wait to get their hands on. We believe customers should upgrade to the most recent versions for the following reasons:

  1. Many IBM SevOne customers initiated their use monitoring their on-premise network. More recently most customers have been seeking a single place to observe both on premise and cloud networks supporting their applications.  Newer versions of IBM SevOne software delivered hybrid network observability for AWS and Azure.
  2. Applications run on networks.  Network managers must understand how they support their applications.  IBM SevOne 7.0 delivered application centric network observability.  This empowers network teams to ensure the network is performing for mission critical applications
  3. Chief Information Security Officers (CISO) have scrutinized observability software in recent years because of the type of data it collects and where the software resides in their networks. To protect against security threats, CISOs require frequent security scanning of network management tools.  As CVE’s are identified almost daily it is important to keep software current and patched.  In recent IBM SevOne releases, 3rd party software have been replaced due because they reached end of support.  The replacement software provides higher stability, longer support times, and faster security patching.  This reduces the frequency of changes to core software components resulting in simplified and less frequent upgrades due to architectural changes.
  4. Many enhancements have been delivered over several releases. We believe your users will appreciate that IBM SevOne continues its history of delivering incremental value every release and modification.

The IBM SevOne Product Team strongly believes for the reason outlined above there was never a better time to upgrade than NOW! We encourage you to catch up on what you are missing by reviewing the release notes here.
